Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Donald Norval Campbell, CD (Retired) enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1942 and transferred to the newly formed RCEME Corps in 1944. A qualified millwright, garage mechanic, and machinist, he served in Canada and Europe in progressively senior roles. By the 1950s, he was an instructor at the RCEME School in Barriefield (Kingston) and was later posted to 194 RCEME Workshop with 27 Canadian Infantry Brigade in Germany. In 1957, he became Company Sergeant Major of the RCEME Apprentice Training Company, and in 1966 was promoted to Warrant Officer Class 1 and appointed Regimental Sergeant Major of the RCEME School.
Legacy & Impact
CWO Campbell became Base Chief Warrant Officer at CFB Kingston in 1968 and later the first School RSM of the newly formed CF School of Aerospace and Ordnance Engineering in Borden. His 32-year military career was marked by exceptional leadership and a deep commitment to Corps tradition. A devoted instructor and band member, he helped raise the RCEME Bugle Band to competition-winning form and remained active in RCEME and community life long after retirement. CWO Campbell passed away in 2011 at the age of 91.
