Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Ellory “Lee” Faulkner, MMM, CD (Retired) served more than 38 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, with 33 years in RCEME and LORE and five in the infantry. Enlisting in 1949, he saw combat in Korea with the Royal Canadian Regiment, earning a Mention in Despatches and a battlefield promotion to sergeant at age 20. He later rejoined RCEME as an electrical technician and advanced through demanding technical and leadership roles. CWO Faulkner was the first RCEME or Land Ordnance Engineering (LORE) member to serve as RSM of 2 Service Battalion, School CWO of Canadian Forces School of Aerospace and Ordnance Engineering (CFSAOE), and Command CWO of the Canadian Forces Training System.
Legacy & Impact
CWO Faulkner broke new ground throughout his career, expanding leadership opportunities for RCEME/LORE senior NCOs. He was recognized for bridging technical and regimental domains, mentoring soldiers, and pushing institutional boundaries. After retirement, he remained active in veterans’ organizations, founded a Korean Veterans Association branch, and helped fellow veterans with disability claims. A true trailblazer, his life exemplified the RCEME motto Arte et Marte in both wartime and peace.
