Col Aros Loudon Maclean, CD (Ret'd)

Colonel (Col) Aros Loudon “Don” Maclean, CD (Retired) joined the Army in 1941 through the Royal Military College program and served continuously through the Second World War and into the unification era, retiring in 1973. He began his service with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps and transferred to RCEME upon its founding in 1944. Col Maclean held senior instructional and leadership roles, including Head of Corps and Commandant of the RCEME School (1965–1968) and Base Commander at CFB Kingston. He also served in Europe during the war, on the International Supervisory Commission in Cambodia, and on staff at Army Headquarters and the Army Staff College.
Legacy & Impact
After retiring, Col Maclean was appointed Colonel Commandant of the Land Ordnance Engineering Branch (1974–1979). He remained active in civic and veterans’ organizations in Kingston, serving as President of the United Way, the Kiwanis Club, and on the boards of Kingston General Hospital and the Corps of Commissionaires. He was instrumental in coordinating the Queen’s 1973 visit to Kingston and remained a respected leader in both military and public service circles.
